Partnerships at BBMS
Drizzle
Science should feel like an engaging, memorable experience—not a boring snooze fest—and that’s exactly what Jason Frazer delivers. As a nationally recognized meteorologist, Jason brings dynamic energy to classrooms at the Bilingual Bicultural Mini School, using his experience on television and with live audiences to captivate students, energize staff, and spark meaningful conversations about weather that continue long after the lesson ends.
Museo del Barrio
The partnership between the Bilingual Bicultural Mini School and El Museo del Barrio brings a rich and engaging arts residency experience directly to students. Through this program, students begin with a museum visit, where they explore exhibitions and extend their learning into hands-on classroom sessions led by a teaching artist from El Museo del Barrio. Over multiple sessions, artists guide students in creating original works, culminating in final presentations or art celebrations that showcase their growth and creativity. With materials provided and a carefully structured schedule of visits, workshops, and culminating events, the residency transforms classrooms into vibrant creative spaces where students connect artistic expression with cultural exploration.
Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is a powerful program that empowers young girls to build confidence, develop healthy habits, and discover their inner strength in a supportive, team-based environment. Through a fun, experience-based curriculum that combines running with engaging lessons, participants learn essential life skills such as goal setting, teamwork, emotional awareness, and self-advocacy. Guided by caring coaches, girls not only grow physically stronger but also develop social and emotional skills that help them navigate life with confidence, culminating in a celebratory 5K that reinforces perseverance and a sense of accomplishment.
Bricks for Kidz
Bricks for Kidz brings hands-on, joyful learning to our Pre-K classrooms by turning play into a powerful introduction to STEAM. Through building with LEGO® bricks, our youngest learners explore creativity, problem-solving, and early engineering concepts in a fun and developmentally appropriate way. Guided by engaging lessons and open-ended play, students build simple structures, experiment with ideas, and collaborate with peers, all while strengthening fine motor skills, imagination, and confidence. Rooted in the philosophy of “learning through play,” this program creates an environment where curiosity is celebrated and every child begins to see themselves as a builder, thinker, and creator.
International Space Station Growing Beyond Earth

The Growing Beyond Earth program at the Bilingual Bicultural Mini School engages fifth grade students in authentic, hands-on STEM research through a unique partnership with NASA and the International Space Station. Led by our dedicated specialty science teacher, Mr. Henry Gonzalez, students use specialized plant habitats modeled after those used in space to grow vegetables, collect data, and analyze environmental conditions. Their work contributes to real scientific research aimed at developing sustainable methods for growing food during long-duration space missions. Through this experience, students strengthen their skills in scientific inquiry, data analysis, and critical thinking, while actively connecting classroom learning to real-world applications that extend far beyond Earth.

The Asphalt Green swimming program, offered to students at BBMS as part of New York City’s broader water safety initiatives, provides students with access to high-quality swim instruction that builds both essential life skills and overall wellness. The program offers lessons that teach water safety, swimming techniques, and confidence in the water. Additionally, it is designed to ensure equitable access, helping students from all backgrounds develop a skill that supports physical health, cognitive development, and long-term safety. In addition to promoting fitness, the program emphasizes discipline, confidence, and lifelong engagement in healthy activities, aligning with the district’s commitment to well-rounded student development.
