3K and PreK: Creative Curriculum

Early Childhood at The Bilingual Bicultural Mini School (P.S. 182)

At The Bilingual Bicultural Mini School, we believe that a strong foundation in early childhood education is essential for lifelong success. Beginning in our 3K and Pre-K programs, we are deeply committed to nurturing the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—through developmentally appropriate, engaging, and joyful learning experiences.

Our early childhood classrooms implement the Creative Curriculum, a research-based approach that supports inquiry, exploration, and purposeful play. Through carefully designed studies such as “Beginning the Year,” “All About Us,” “Trees,” “Clothing,” “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” and “Buildings,” students develop critical thinking, language, and problem-solving skills while making meaningful connections to their world. Each unit is intentionally structured to promote curiosity, collaboration, and independence, ensuring that learning is both rigorous and relevant.

Learning in our 3K and Pre-K classrooms is hands-on and highly interactive. Students engage in exploration across centers such as dramatic play, blocks, art, science, and literacy, where they actively construct knowledge alongside their peers and teachers. These experiences allow students to deepen their understanding through meaningful, project-based learning rather than passive, seated tasks. As reflected in recent classroom practices, our youngest learners “engage through hands-on activities… actively participate with the teacher and deepen their understanding through meaningful, project-based learning.”

Central to our early childhood program is a strong emphasis on social-emotional development. Teachers intentionally foster skills such as self-regulation, cooperation, empathy, and communication. Through structured routines, responsive interactions, and opportunities for collaborative play, students learn how to express themselves, build relationships, and navigate their environment with confidence.

We are equally committed to ensuring that every child thrives. Our teachers are equipped with the tools, materials, and professional support needed to meet the diverse needs of all learners. Classrooms are thoughtfully designed, and instruction is differentiated to ensure accessibility and challenge for every child. By providing rich resources and responsive teaching practices, we create an environment where all students feel supported, valued, and capable.

At The Bilingual Bicultural Mini School, early childhood education is filled with joy. Students laugh, explore, create, and discover every day. This combination of engaging learning experiences, strong social-emotional support, and high-quality instruction lays the groundwork for future academic success and a lifelong love of learning.
